The boys made a tent under the table on the deck. They play in it while Jared and I worked on the woods.

Now our plan is to clear this woods (about an acre), leaving the bigger trees and some nice smaller ones. We are getting rid of a lot of ash trees.

Our backyard seems so much bigger!

 (Before)

This section of the woods was tough. There was a lot of dead stuff to pick up and lots of shrubs. We'll be planting some new trees in this area. We have the far left area yet to do and will hopefully finish this weekend. This section has a lot of cherry trees and some maple.

Pirates day at school

Adding details to Adam's alien

Jacob came home from school today and said, "I have something really exciting to tell you! I read a chapter book to chapter two!" He asked me for some note cards and got one of our Magic Tree house books. He showed me how Mr Henderson taught him to "chunk out" the words (using the note cards). The last few Magic tree house books we read were "To be continued" of each other but we didn't have book 20 yet (the book he is now reading at school). He was excited to tell me about the chapter he read. He went out on the deck and read a chapter from one of our books and said, "I LOVE reading!" He might not get all the words but he gets enough of them to follow the story.

Adam is studying for his first spelling test (he scored 11/10 getting the bonus sentence too).
He likes writing them in rainbow colors with markers.
