Day 3 (8-1-11)

Jacob's Falls
Brockway Mt.
Tired group just before our trip to the ER
We were up around 7:30am. Eli still cried when we picked him up under his arms. We also noticed he wasn’t using his right arm as much. When we took off his shirt we thought it looked swollen by his collar bone. We gave him some ibuprofen. Around 10:00 we headed to the Great Sand Bay. Eli would cry if I got too far from him. He put handfuls of sand on my knees and laughed when I’d brush it off. The boys found a frog to play with and made it a home in the sand. Adam liked going out in the deep water with Daddy. Norman went for his first swim and really enjoyed being in the water. There were some gulls flying around and he went crazy chasing their shadows.  A bald eagle flew right over us and I got it on video. From there we headed just up the road a little ways to the Jampot for goodies. We ate our goodies by Jacob’s Falls. We drove up Brockway Mt and got out to walk around up there. Back at camp I tucked Eli in for a nap. We went to Grandma’s site to visit with her. We decided we needed to take Eli to the hospital so headed there around 4:30. The hospital staff was all so kind. We really liked them and so did the boys. Eli was acting shy during the doctors exam and we were almost discharged. The doctor palpated Eli’s collar bone again and he flinched. He then noticed that where he’d palpated stayed red and said that is a sign of trauma. Eli didn’t want to take his eyes off the lady taking his x-ray. I had to bribe him to look at me with his pacifier. He did have a buckle fracture of his right clavicle. Jared got talking with the doctor and found out his one son is the guy who caught the huge fish at the Hilltop restaurant and the other son works where Jared does. They put Eli in a Y-brace which has to be checked and tightened often. He has to wear this for 2-3 wks. We need a follow up appointment with our pediatrician in 2 wks. The doctor said it a buckle fracture but one more hard fall and it could break completely. Then he said, “Good luck with that.” The nurses gave the boys a bunch of stickers. We got back to camp around 6:30. Eli acted goofy after taking his ibuprofen. We ate a late dinner. Grandma and Grandpa came over to sit by the fire with us and we made smores. Grandpa wrote, “Adam is a bad egg” on a piece of birch bark. So Jacob got another piece of bark and wrote, “Grandpa is a bad egg” on it.

What an interesting day you had! I am so glad to see pictures of Eli in his brace -- I had no idea how they would deal with the fracture.

The pictures are just great. I get a real kick out of Adam's sly looks. I always wonder what he is planning . . .

Jacob seems so grown up. I suspect he is really able to take care of a lot of things in the camp. In a few years, he will probably be able to handle getting everything set up, don't you think?
