Day 11 (8-9-11)

                                                          Boys in their patch sweatshirts.
Checking out an inch worm.
Painting disks with glaze
Into the kiln

During the night there were thunderstorms. Jared, Eli, and I woke up around 8:30 and Jacob and Adam were up around 9:00. Grandma, Noah, and Andrew came with us on our walk after breakfast. Andrew  wanted to push Eli in the stroller again. Jacob and Adam rode their bikes. We put a card on Adam’s bike so he could have a motor too. Then we walked over to Pebble Beach. On the way there Jacob found a caterpillar that he wanted to keep. He and Daddy took it back to put in the bug cage while we continued on to the beach.  At the beach we found an inch worm. Adam and Eli got right up close as they watched it move on the sand. When Jacob got there Adam gave the inch worm to him. Jacob carried it back with us to add to his bug cage. After lunch we went to town to see Dennis and Leslie. Dennis was raku firing today. Leslie had made the boys clay disk to paint with glazes. Then Dennis put their disks into the kiln. We visited while we waited to see their finished pieces. Once they were cool enough the boys helped Leslie polish them. They really had a great time doing these, Thank you Dennis and Leslie!!! Eli sat in the chair for a long time but got sleepy. I put him in the carrier and he fell asleep. Around 3:00 we took a drive to the Jampot. It was a cool, windy day (high 60’s) so we drove on to Eagle River to see the waves there. We stopped at a roadside park on the drive back to camp and hiked over the rock wall. It felt chilly up there. We then drove up Brockway Mountain. We went in the store on the mountain and the boys got patches for their sweatshirts. I started sewing those on as we drove back to camp. After dinner we took a walk around the campground. Grandma and Grandpa walked with us. The boys rode their scooters. Eli was so tired and almost fell asleep in the stroller. We sat by the fire and made smores. Eli sat on Grandma’s lap for awhile but was so sleepy. I tucked him in bed and he was asleep quickly. Jacob was excited to wear his camouflage pj’s tonight. It was a nice, cool night. We were in bed around 10pm.

What a cool day! (In more ways than one!)

Now, Kimmy, you know that I am going to ask to see a photo of the disks. I would love to see what they painted and how the glaze turned out. Did the glazes change colors in the firing?
