creep feed gate
Kenzie delivering a lamb
Jared was off work today and it was the first day of Spring break for the boys. Eli and Adam came to Aunt Bippi's house with me and stayed with her while I went grocery shopping. Jacob had fun with Daddy and they went to town for slurpies. Jared built a creep feed gate for the lambs which turned out really nice. Around 3:30 Jared called to say Ewe #47 was in labor. We got home around 4:30 and she still had no progress. Kenzie and Lauren (Kenzie's cousin) came home with us to spend the night. After more than 2 hrs of her pushing and no progress at all I checked her. This lamb was coming out in the correct position (head and feet first) but may have been too large or had its elbows stuck. Kenzie gloved up and was ready to deliver this lamb and she did a great! Soon after this the ewe delivered a smaller lamb. The first was a boy weighing 11lbs 11oz (Kenzie was born 11/11 so she named him Monroe) and the other a girl weighing 7lbs 10oz. We gave the lambs a while but the smaller lamb was weak and not even trying to stand. The mom seemed much less interested in her too. Kenzie expressed some milk from the mom and they tubed the small lamb. She soon was on her feet and nursing. Both lambs are doing really well. Tonight I had planned on making a couple apple pies and a cake for our Easter celebration tomorrow and my mom's birthday. Kenzie and Lauren were happy to peel all my apples and Jared cut them up. Then they girls followed my directions and made the apple pies. Next thing I know they also had made the cake. Such great helpers!
