Picnic with Adam today

Adam swallowed a presidential dollar (tooth fairy money) on the bus today (around 3:30).  Our neighbor Kailey told Jacob that Adam was choking so he hurried over to him and pounded on his back.  The bus driver called an ambulance and then called us.  We hurried to meet the ambulance where the bus had left the boys.  Adam was in the back of the ambulance and was really worried.  They asked if we wanted to take him to the hospital and we decided we would.  He complained that the back of his neck hurt.  He puked several times on the drive to the hospital.  He also was spitting a lot as he couldn't swallow it.  Jacob was very concerned about his brother.  They took x-ray's and found that the coin was stuck in Adam's esophagus (by his collarbone).  My parents came and took Jacob and Eli home with them to spend the night.  Thanks's Mom and Dad! Jacob came back to give Adam a hug goodbye.  They put an iv in which Adam was good about.  Adam was so uncomfortable and kept asking when they were gonna get the coin out.  He was really thirsty but couldn't eat or drink. They tried a few hospitals but the nearest available pediatric surgeon was 2 hrs away at U or M hospital.  It takes a specialized tool and training to do this procedure.  I rode in the ambulance with Adam and Jared followed (or tried to) behind us. The ambulance was going very fast.  Adam liked it when they turned on the sirens.  The paramedic gave Adam a teddy bear which he loves.  She also gave him a piece of his heart rate papers and a snap sticker that they used to check his heart rate.  We got to U of M around 9pm.  They let Adam pick a movie to watch while they talked with us.  The doctor wanted to look for the coin by putting a camera down Adam's nose.  It was uncomfortable for Adam but he did good for it.  Just before 11:00 they took Adam back for surgery.  He kept asking how long he was going to be asleep for.  Jared and I went downstairs to get some subway before they closed.  Not long after we came back the doctors came to tell us that the surgery went well and gave Jared the coin.  Adam was in recovery for about another hour before we were able to see him.  It took a little bit to wake him.  He is feeling much better.  He quickly drank two juice boxes and ate some crackers.  We made it home around 3:30am. Adam slept on the floor by our bed.

Ambulance ride

Jacob and Eli got to go with Nana and Papa to my cousin Matthew's apartment.

After a successful surgery and feeling much better!

He loved riding in the wheelchair.

Well, I put corn kernels in my nostrils. But it was not as dramatic as this! Wow! What a memory this is going to make!
