Blanch, Fryne, and Della. Fyrne is looking very uncomfortable
First lamb of the year!
Tubing some colostrum
Two healthy boys!
After work I went to the barn to check on the sheep. Fryne was laying in the corner and when she got up it looked like she had been laying there for a long time. She kept sniffing her sides which is a good sign that she was in labor. I went out and spied on her and she was pawing a lot so I knew today was the day! I let Jared know but he was in an important meeting. He headed home after his meeting but stopped at the school to pick up Jacob who started 7/8th grade Jazz band today. Jacob was worried about joining because they're are some really bad 8th graders on his bus. He said the kids are nice and he really enjoyed it! When Jared got home I check Fyrne and could feel a lamb but she wasn't dilated completely. We left her alone for awhile and took a walk in the woods. After about an hour we checked on her and she was laying in the corner and had a lot of mucous. We decided to give her another hour before checking on her again. Inside I asked Eli if he wanted to play 3-13 and he said he’d have to check his schedule. He asked for help writing a schedule and he fit our game into his schedule. We went back out to check on Fryne but she was not dilating enough for the lamb that was coming so I helped stretched her cervix and delivered the first lamb. It was a boy and weighed 12.2 lbs. We called Grandma right away. The boys were lots of help getting us towels and other needed items. Jacob ran to the house to get me some more iodine. I checked Fryne again and the next lamb was coming butt first. This lamb felt really different and wasn’t helping at all which made it more difficult to deliver. The lamb was dead and a little deformed on its mouth. It was a black girl weighing about 9 lbs. We tubed some colostrum to the first lamb and continued drying him off. Fyrne was also doing a good job licking him. I decided to check Fryne again and there was another lamb coming head first with its elbows tucked. I helped her deliver this one and was excited when I saw its white legs! We didn't expect a white lamb from Fyrne and Oscar. Its a white boy weighing 10.6 lbs. We tubbed him some colostrum and towel dried him. Both lambs are doing great!
