Now our plan is to clear this woods (about an acre), leaving the bigger trees and some nice smaller ones. We are getting rid of a lot of ash trees.

Our backyard seems so much bigger!

This section of the woods was tough. There was a lot of dead stuff to pick up and lots of shrubs. We'll be planting some new trees in this area. We have the far left area yet to do and will hopefully finish this weekend. This section has a lot of cherry trees and some maple.

Very nice! I hope you are leaving some good hardwoods that can grow into beautiful heritage trees -- trees that, when they are big at 100 years old, will provide good wood for a good price. You may be able to support a grandchild's education with some great hardwood heritage trees. Plan for the future! (This is what is happening here: enough of these pine plantations that lose value and are uninteresting to see!)
