8/19/21

We all overslept this morning until about 8:15.  We had to be to the fairgrounds by 9:00 for the overall showmanship meeting.  We made it there on time.  She had everyone introduce themselves and handed out t-shirts.  I talked to her after the meeting and she gave us a name of someone that could work with us on horse showmanship.  A horse show was going on so we walked around for awhile looking for the horse that matched the picture on the stall.  I finally found her and talked to her.  She said we could come back at 1:00.  Her son is in the overall show too.  We went to Meijer for some snacks and drinks.  Mom, Vikki, and Isaac met us there to pick up Peyton.  We went home for a little while and I messaged Kari and some other 4H people about working with beef and dairy cows.  Someone was going to help us with pigs too but it didn't work out.  Adam stayed home and we went back at around noon.  At 1:00 we met in the horse arena with Tanner and another girl.  They brought their horses and helped the boys learn about showing them.  Both boys loved working with the horses.  We went to the cow barn and met with some girls who helped the boys learn about the beef cows.  We couldn't use the arena because it was set up for the auction.  Space was tight but the boys were able to walk them in a circle.  The one girl told the boys not to be nervous because the cow can sense it and might kick.  They she showed them a big bruise she had gotten from her cow.  From there we went to the dairy cows and a lady from Grandma's pumpkin patch helped us.  Jacob will not need to show a dairy cow because no one showed one in his age group. Nana gave each of the boys some money to spend at the fair.  They got some pop slushies to drink.  We got home around 3:00.  Jared met us there.  We headed back to the fairgrounds and went to Kari's site so the boys could write buyer thank you cards.  Then we went to get the sheep and brushed all the shavings off their legs.  We gave them a bath.  The boys changed into their dress clothes and sat with their sheep by their stalls.  It was about 90 degrees today.  The auction started at around 5:30.  First they auctioned the grand champion and reserve grand champion.  They went for $11 and $17/lb.  A few sheep after those sold for $5/lb.  Most sheep sold for $8-$10.  Adam's sheep was number 17 in and made $9/lb.  Aiden Yoder was the auctioneer and said, "Wow Adam!  You've grown about 2ft since I saw you last!"  That put a big smile on Adam, haha.  Eli's sheep was number 19 and Jacob sheep was number 20 and the last sheep sold.  They both made $8/lb.  On the way home we stopped at the gas station for drinks and went to Good Times for pizza and breadsticks.   We watched tv and then the boys played miencraft.  Jared and I played 3-13.  Jared won.

Love that Eli made the news too! You and Jared sure do a great job raising your boys.
