Jacob loves reading Calvin and Hobbes

We got this email (below) from Mr Henderson

Mr. and Mrs. Russell
I just wanted to pass along a little information from this week.  I hope that Jacob made the point of telling you about his reading progress.  He tested at a level M, which is 2 levels higher than at semester, when he was a K.  This means that he made 2 marking periods' progress in the last 9 weeks, despite the snow days.  It also means that he made progress toward grade level by moving more than one level in a marking period.  This is truly cause for celebration, we are closing the gap and it is because of his hard work.  Overall this week was a great one to be Jacob.  He was recognized by my substitute on Thursday by being on silver when I returned.  We are working on mini, fairly informal nonfiction presentations (a summarizing exercise) and Jacob's is looking great and he is excited about it.  I told Jacob today that if I had the opportunity this week, I might have traded places with him.  Outstanding work.
Thanks

Jared went out to check on the ewes this morning and found that Ewe #514 (triplets mom) had just delivered twins.  They are boy/girl weighing 13lbs 6oz and 12lbs 3oz. Both are doing very good. This morning I let Eli feel the warm egg that I had just collected.  He said, "Oh we can make chicken nuggets from that egg."  I showed Eli a picture of our new lambs and he said, "Can you not delete that picture because its my favorite?"

Vikki and Mom came over to visit today.  The small boy lamb has diarrhea so we are giving him electrolytes and expressing milk from his mom.  Around 2pm Vikki went out to the barn to check the ewes, while I was making an apple pie.  She called to say a ewe was lambing.  Ewe #616 soon gave birth to a lamb.  Mom and Vikki got to watch.  I went in the house for a few things and by the time I came out the ewe had her second lamb.  She had and a girl and a boy.  They are doing very well.  One weighs 11lbs 2oz and the other is 11lbs 13oz.  Dad came over this evening and joined us for dinner.

This morning Jared went to town for coffee and papers.  He also stopped at meijer for a few things.  The bigger lamb was doing good, but the small one wasn't.   His temp would go down as soon as he was away from the heat. He had a really hard time learning to stand.   We gave the him an intraperitineal injection of a dextrose sol.  This lamb didn't survive.  We believe it had white muscle disease (a selenium deficiency).  The other lamb is doing very well with its mom.
